Bier und Weisswurst

Well, I told Brock I'd do it so I did it. 8-Hour layover in Munich and hopped a train to downtown. Cost me 11 Euro (~$13) and took about 45 minutes to get into town. The landscape here is beautifully green and laid out in perfect little striped plots, a lot like Wisconsin. I sat next to a guy who looked my age and asked him if I was on the right train. We talked on the way into town, his name was Riley. He works at the airport and cooks for the staff. He told me the name of a great restaurant, told me what to order (weisswurst) and boy was it the most comforting meal for some reason. Or maybe it was just comforting because I've been eating fast food for the past 24 hours and my stomach was just thankful to have something real put in it. Either way, I was famished and ate the entire thing (saved some mustard as a souvenir), and ended up slightly drunk at 2PM Munich time, which is around 9AM in Wisconsin. So, yippee! Walking around alone, buzzed, like a tourist taking pictures of everything with weisswurst stains on my skirt. Awesome.

Meat, beer and bread. In no other country would I accept this as a substantial meal. It's amazing Germans aren't all obese. I'm excited to quit eating meat for the summer in India. It'll be a good system detox.
