Our Taj Mahal

We moved into the guest house at the school today. The campus is very large and beautiful with gardens, huge banyan trees, playgrounds, a cantina and a coffee shop, and more. We live with the senior citizens, who are all currently watching TV in their rooms. They are so curious and polite and smile and wave when we walk by. Our room has AC and I don't think any of the other rooms do, because they all have their doors open. This is good to keep the mosquitos out. Kerry says our room is "like a palace" compared to the rest of average Indian lifestyle. We have a very clean bathroom with a western toilet and shower. We even have heated water (albeit unnecessary). There is a warden who delivers our food, breakfast lunch and dinner. She only speaks Tamil, but somehow I manage to understand what she is trying to say solely based on nonverbal cues. It's amazing. I still can't understand any Tamil. It's more similar to Sanskrit than it is to Hindi.

Our room is amidst the senior housing, and all of our neighbors are cute old folks, mostly women. One has introduced herself and has knocked on our door asking if we need anything just to ask. Her name is Anne and she is so kind that it makes me feel at home. She's probably 4 1/2 feet tall.

Dinner is delivered in these awesome containers called tiffins. The chutney or curry is in the top section and the bottom contains the rice, dosa, chowpatti, or whatever bread is served.

We ventured around the school grounds today and all the kids were so excited to see us. These three were eating mangoes and ran up and posed for a photo.

Tomorrow we start planning our schedules with the teachers who will be our advisors for the summer. I hope the kids like what I have planned for them. I'm going to have around 30 students per class. As far as I know, I'll be doing poi, hooping, and yoga during the PT hours, crafts during art class, and English at the government school.

My stomach has been aching all day, and I'm having trouble stomaching all the spicy acidic foods. I brought plenty of Pepto Bismol and antacids so we'll see if it goes away. Alright, time for bed. I'm meeting all the kids tomorrow! Over and out :)

    1. I know they are! My 8th standard English class is hilarious. They're all about 12-13 years old and they basically worship me. The only hard part is trying to handle 40 screaming girls who just want to play games and I'm supposed to teach them something.

Our room is quite far from the main road so we don't hear anything at night but the (very loud) hum of our godsent AC.

    1. Hehehe they loved poi today. They're all pretty good at it!! I'm so glad you inspired me to spin, Rae. Also, I'm listening to this song right now and it made me think of you:

Dropping your bombs now on all we built
How does it feel now to watch it burn burn burn
      Rae's your weapon
      Rae's your weapon!
