We had our first arts & crafts class at the government school. I'm starting to love these girls. I sincerely like them more than the students at Lady Andal. Perhaps it's because I see them on a daily basis, but I only see the kids at Lady Andal once a week. My students at Lady Andal don't have much concern or respect for me, they're very egocentric and hyperactive. These girls are so much easier! Their teacher is definitely more strict with them, and she sits through our class and translates because the girls only know Tamil. She's more engaged in our work and helping us keep the class in line, whereas the teachers at Lady Andal just leave us with the class and things end up going haywire because there's nobody there with the authoritative presence to get the kids to sit down and listen to me. It's genuinely frustrating, I didn't think it would be this difficult to get them to listen to me. Even second graders are more interested in each other than me. I'm glad I have these girls in the afternoon so my day finishes off on a positive note.
Feeling sort of frustrated right now. Things are up and things are down and then up and then down, but things will be up again so I'm not that worried about it.
Missing home, admittedly. Sending love.
I hope your feeling better after our discussion today. I look forward to our trip to Meghalaya. It is very important you be with your Grandmother and meet her family in her birthplace.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could get more involved with the government school and less involvement with Lady Andal school?
Lovely art work from your students!
